ICTY Fellowships 2010 - 2011.

The International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute (IBAHRI) is looking to sponsor up to four Fellows to work full time for one year at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY), at The Hague, the Netherlands.

The Fellows will assist the Judges and staff of either a Trial Chamber or the Appeals Chambers in the research and drafting that is necessary to adjudicate cases at trial or pending on appeals. They will work, as interns, under the supervision of the presiding judges and senior legal officers of the respective Chambers. Specifically, the Fellows will:

 - primarily form part of a small team of legal staff who, under the supervision of the senior legal officers, assist the judges either (1) at trial, by providing support both in and out of court on substantive and procedural matters, including the preparation of the trial judgement; or (2) on appeal, by preparing the appeals from judgments for hearing, attending the hearings and deliberations, and subsequently drafting the appeals judgments;

 - on behalf of the Judges, conduct legal research on a diverse range of assigned issues in international law and other areas of specialisation, such as international humanitarian law and procedural law, using multiple resource sources; 

- assist in the preparation of memoranda on legal/factual issues relevant for the cases s/he is assigned to; 

- perform other duties as assigned.

Support Package:

Each Fellow will receive a scholarship of €47,000 for one year, paid quarterly in advance. 

Fellows will be responsible for their own travel and housing expenses, as well as for any and all tax liabilities arising from the funding arrangement.

The Fellowship Programme is administered by the IBAHRI; Fellows will not be staff members of the UN.
