IBAHRI Activities

 The IBAHRI undertakes projects to advance human rights and the rule of law across the globe.

Building a Bar in Afghanistan
Human Rights training in Libya

 Such projects include:

  • Human rights training for lawyers and judges, including recent trainings programmes in Libya and Armenia.
  • Fact-finding missions to countries where there has been a significant deterioration in the rule of law, for example Fiji and South Africa
  • Long-term technical assistance programmes for Bar Associations and Law Societies worldwide, including the recent establishment of the Afghan Bar and a legal specialist placement in Zambia 
  • Trial observations to encourage compliance with fair trial standards and monitor and report upon legal proceedings, from Malaysia to Zimbabwe
  • Thematic papers commenting on aspects of human rights and international law issues, such as the responsibility to protect and terrorism
  • Targeted media and advocacy campaigns to lobby for change, through press releases, intervention letters and the dissemination of human rights news.
