THE INTERNATIONAL BAR ASSOCIATION FOUNDATION, INC.

FOUNDATION MISSION STATEMENT

The Foundation’s mission is to engage in a wide variety of international charitable endeavors related to the rule of law, including continuing legal education and equitable access to the legal system and, particularly in more economically disadvantaged parts of the world, infrastructure improvements, competent legal services and legal services administration.   Since 1986, the Foundation has funded law-related projects throughout the world.

The Foundation’s aims are to:

• Advance legal education for the benefit of the public;
• Study and advance the administration of justice worldwide, including aiding non-discriminatory access to the legal systems in developing countries;
• Undertake non-partisan research into common legal problems; and
• Aid in providing legal source materials and making them available for the public’s benefit.

  In carrying out its mission, the Foundation interacts with the International Bar Association (IBA) (including the various national bar association members of the IBA, the IBA’s Divisions and their individual members, and other arms of the IBA including the Human Rights Institute) and a comparable United Kingdom charity, the International Bar Association Charitable Trust; and supports other legally-related projects not associated with IBA programs.  The Foundation provides financial support for approved charitable projects, typically coupling it with the contribution of time and expertise by the Foundation and by individual IBA members.

The International Bar Association Foundation, Inc. (Foundation) is a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation licensed in New York State.  US and international members of the International Bar Association (IBA), headquartered in London, England, established the Foundation in 1986.
