Funded Projects
The Foundation has funded a variety of programs since its creation in 1986. The following are some examples of the kinds of programs the Foundation has funded in the past five years. We hope these examples will serve as a guide to grant seekers as to the kinds of projects that fall within our programmatic areas.
• City University of New York Distance Learning Initiative (2005). Funding for the design of the information/instructional on-line training materials, to be used to train staff at community based organizations so that they can offer critically needed legal services to the expanding immigrant population in New York City and throughout the United States.
• British Institute on International and Comparative Law (2005). Funding for the preparation of sourcebook and CD-Rom of comparative materials, to help strengthen the capacity of lawyers in Commonwealth African States in death penalty cases and in the discussion of law reform.
• Legal Tools for Commonwealth Africa – Death Penalty Cases (2005). Funding for the compilation of comparative legal materials to strengthen the capacity of lawyers in death penalty cases and in the discussion of law reform.
• IBA Terrorism Task Force (2003). The Foundation contributed to the development of the report of the International Terrorism Task Force, and to the establishment of a forum for public discussion on “International Terrorism: Legal Challenges and Responses”.
• Pacific Judicial Conference (2003). Helped fund the conference to produce Principles of judicial administration in the South Pacific region.
• Organization of the Commonwealth Caribbean Bar Association (2003). Contribution to the OCCBA’s Access to Justice (Information Technology) Project. The legal aid projects of the seventeen bar member associations have been linked and the website is operational.
• IBA Committee on Art, Cultural Institutions and Heritage Digital Book on Legal and Other Issues in Protection of cultural Heritage – The Latin American and Caribbean Experience in Context (2001-2004). Contributed to the development of the groundbreaking digital book.
IBA General Professional Program/IBA Human Rights Institute Bar Leaders Conference (2000)
Support was given to assist with the programming and educational aspects of a Conference held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, from September 14-16, 2000, as well as to facilitate attendance from developing nations.
CLE, Ethics and Office Management Training (1999)
A grant was made to support the educational elements of the IBA African Regional Conference held April 7-10, 1999 in Accra, Ghana.
