Update from Meeting in Amsterdam, May 2008

A new draft of the IBA Code of Ethics is now being reviewed by the Policy Committee and also the IBA Professional Ethics Committee.  It's final format will be:

i) Each rule as outlined in the 'General Principles of the Legal Profession 2006'
ii) An explanation, or further expansion of the rule as necessary
iii) Details of the international implications (where relevant).

The General Principles of the Legal Profession’ are adopted and replace the ‘General Principles for Ethics of Lawyers’(1995).  To the extent that the newly adopted principles should conflict with the IBA’s International Code of Ethics, (currently under review) the former prevail.
