A webinar presented by the IBA Young Lawyers Committee
In a watershed development, India has finally opened its legal services sector to foreign lawyers and law firms. Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has blossomed into an international business hub, given the prominence of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) and the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM). A treaty of reciprocity for enforcement of orders and decrees between the two countries was recently notified, while there’s palpable interest in both nations in exploring opportunities in each other’s jurisdictions. India is the largest legal services industry in the world by number of lawyers, and also has highest expat population based in the UAE.
At a time when young lawyers are looking to establish their careers beyond their local jurisdictions, this webinar proposes to highlight the opportunities and challenges that one can expect when exploring these two key markets.
Topics to be covered include:
• the opening up of the Indian legal services sector, the rule of reciprocity and opportunities and challenges;
• the UAE legal services sector – onshore UAE, the DIFC and the ADGM – and the associated opportunities and challenges;
• notification of the reciprocal arrangement between India and the UAE for execution of civil decrees; and
• war stories from budding lawyers and emerging law firms setting up in the UAE.
