Angola

Promoting Justice Post-Conflict - July 2003

In April 2003, the HRI conducted a fact-finding mission to Angola to assess the administration of justice and to recommend steps to create a fully functioning justice system after the civil war. The mission assessed:

  • the independence of the judiciary in Angola;
  • the state of the legal profession and its freedom of association and accessibility;
  • threats to the rule of law.
  • the effect the civil war had on Angola’s compliance with international human rights standards, in particular, issues concerning key conventions on women and the International Criminal Court.

The findings are detailed in the report.
