Ayesha Shahid

Ayesha Shahid is a doctoral candidate in the School of Law of the University of Warwick.  Her doctoral research is on women domestic workers in Pakistan, which is a socio-legal study that questions the efficacy of law as a tool for empowerment for women domestic workers in a plural legal setting.  Formerly she was lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Peshawar, Pakistan. She was also the co-ordinator for the Human Rights Studies Centre, established at the Faculty of Law, University of Peshawar in collaboration with Women’s Law, Institute University of Oslo, Norway. Besides holding an LLM in International Human Rights Law, she also holds a diploma in ‘Teaching Human Rights Law’ from Columbia University, USA. She has presented papers in various national and international conferences and has also carried out research projects for international organisations such as the Asia Foundation, the International Labour Organisation and the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan.  Her teaching and research interests are in the areas of international human rights law, employment law, gender and law and Islamic law.
