Mozambique

In December 2005, the Human Rights Institute completed the second phase of a capacity building project with the Mozambique Bar Association (MBA), generously funded by the Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa. The project involved the placement of a Legal Specialist, Ms Rita Patricio, with the MBA on a full time basis.

The second phase of the project built upon the achievements of the first phase by assisting the MBA in strengthening its internal operations and management, its representation of the legal profession and its ability to support the rule of law. The project helped the MBA purchase new equipment for its secretariat, train key staff, organise conferences on ethics and corruption, publish a newsletter and establish a website, and strengthen links between the profession throughout the region and within Mozambican society.
