Lawyers as Leaders - Human Rights

To increase awareness of legal issues related to corporate sustainability, the United Nations Global Compact and the IBA, with the generous support of LexisNexis, have produced the first module of a video training manual, Lawyers as Leaders: The Essential Role of Legal Counsel in the Corporate Sustainability Agenda.
The manual consists of modules on human rights (see below), and future modules will deal with labour, the environment and anti-corruption. Read more

Part 1 of 2: Georg Kell, Executive Director of UNGC, and John Sherman, Co-Chair of the IBA CSR Committee, present the concepts behind the Lawyers as Leaders initiative and outline the importance of corporate sustainability; Navanethem Pillay, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, introduces the human rights module.

Part 2 of 2: Caroline Rees, Director of the Governance and Accountability Program of the CSR Initiative of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, provides analysis and commentary and presents interviews and case studies with: Professor John Ruggie, Special Respresentative of the UN Secretary-General on business and human rights; Mark Nordstrom, Senior Labor & Employment Counsel, General Electric Company; and Debra Valentine, Group executive, Legal & External Affairs, Rio Tinto Group.
