Business Crime Committee Projects

International Survey on Industrial Espionage

The Business Crime Committee has created a working group specifically to conduct a major international survey on industrial espionage.The main purpose of the survey is to:

  • identify how problematic industrial espionage has become;
    learn about the ways in which firms deal with the threat of espionage, and what the government’s role is;
  • identify a set of 'best practices' to deal with the issue.

We have received a number of responses, from a total of 12 jurisdictions, namely: United States, United Kingdom, Finland, Canada, Sweden, Brazil, Indonesia, New Zealand, Macedonia, Portugal, Malta, and Colombia. In order to ensure that the survey is robust and representative of a wide range of jurisdictions, we would appreciate your assistance in completing the survey. If you are from a country not as yet represented, it would be greatly appreciated if you could spend a short amount of time to fill out the survey form.

If you are a private practitioner download the survey to private practitioners.

If you are an in-house counsel download the survey to in-house counsel.

The completed survey should be sent to Valentina Zoghbi, IBA Project Lawyer.

Any assistance you may be able to provide in this pro-bono project will be recognised in the survey report. With your assistance, we hope to reach our goal of identifying – from a legal perspective – what can be done to deal with this global problem more effectively.

If you have any comments or queries please contact Valentina Zoghbi.
