Section Overview
The Section on Energy, Environment, Natural Resources and Infrastructure Law (SEERIL) has a membership of 2,400 lawyers in private practice, oil and mining companies, international organisations, government and academia. The Section coordinates the activities of six Committees, which aim to advance the development and understanding of the law affecting oil and gas, mining, power, water, international construction projects and environment, health and safety law. The United Kingdom Energy Lawyers Group is also part of the Section.
The Academic Advisory Group (AAG) is a distinctive feature of SEERIL. For over 20 years SEERIL (earlier SERL) members who also hold academic appointments in Law Schools around the world have formed a group of scholarly advisors to the parent body. Currently AAG members come from such diverse locations as North America, the EU, Nigeria, Japan, New Zealand, South America, and Singapore.
The AAG’s primary mission within SEERIL is to prepare a major work of scholarship every two years. The topics are drawn from cutting edge materials in energy, environmental, natural resources, and infrastructure law. They address both national and regional approaches to the topics and the development of international law in the field. The three prior topics; Regulating Energy and Natural Resources 2006, Energy Security in 2004 and Public Participation in the Sustainable Development of Mining and Energy Resources in 2002 were published by Oxford University Press.
The role of the Section on Energy, Environment, Natural Resources and Infrastructure Law is to coordinate the activities of the following Committees:
