Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Law
Committee Overview
The Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Law Committee is a forum for the consideration of legal issues in the Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Industries.
Tourism is the world's largest industry in terms of output and employment. The World Tourism Council estimates that one in nine workers worldwide are employed in the tourism industry and that it generates $US 3.4 trillion annually or 10 per cent of global output. It has a growth rate of 5.5 per cent annually.
The development of travel, tourism and hospitality law is growing with the industry. Travel (or holiday) law and hospitality (or hotel) law are the main areas developing as specialist legal disciplines, while the industry continues to have significant requirements for a wide variety of other more traditional legal disciplines. It is also a relatively highly regulated industry and legal assistance is often needed on these regulatory aspects. The subject matter will normally have an international aspect, making the interchange of views and network opportunities available through the Committee particularly valuable. The Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Law Committee lawyer often practices in one of the traditional legal fields of aviation, property, finance, maritime, intellectual property, employment, litigation, conflict of laws, consumer law, insurance and trade law. But his or her specific knowledge of tourism issues confers a great advantage in advising upon a specific travel, tourism or hospitality application of the law.
The Committee draws great strength from the IBA's attraction as the largest international legal association. Committee members are leaders in the field, and encompass the broadest possible cross section of lawyers around the world which gives the Committee a truly international character.
Additionally, the Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Law Committee works with the following Committee to form the Travel and Leisure Section:
