Law firms talk glibly about growth strategies. Growth is not a strategy in itself. Nor is merger. Strategy requires you to step back, understand not just the firm, but your clients’ future needs and the macro-economic backdrop. Only then can you set your objectives. Sometimes we are blinded by what the competition is doing and lose sight of what it is we set out to achieve.

The UK’s current government has created a ‘hostile environment’ for undocumented individuals in the UK: its effects have been widespread – turning hospitals, schools and landlords into de facto immigration officers. The outlook appears now to have changed following reports of its negative effects on the Windrush generation: will the ‘compliant environment’ go far enough to ease these effects?
