Disciplinary Authorities

The New South Wales Legal Services Commissioner investigates complaints and may make determinations about consumer complaints and disciplinary complaints about unsatisfactory professional conduct (but not professional misconduct) and impose sanctions or order remedies.
The Commissioner may delegate the investigation of complaints to the NSW Law Society or NSW Bar Association. Unsatisfactory professional conduct complaints may be referred (and professional misconduct complaints must be referred) to the Civil and Administrative Tribunal of NSW to make disciplinary, compensation and other orders. An order from the NCAT recommending removal from the roll is referred to the Supreme Court.
