Rethinking leadership approaches in light of Covid-19 – individuals matter!

Tiernan Brady

Tiernan is the Global Director of Inclusion for Clifford Chance. He is an equality campaigner and was the Political Director of the successful Irish referendum campaign for marriage equality which saw Ireland become the first country in the world to introduce marriage equality by a public vote. He subsequently became the Executive Director of The Equality Campaign, the successful Australian public vote campaign for marriage equality. They remain the only two countries in the world to have introduced marriage equality through a public vote. He is also the Director of Equal Future, a global campaign working with LGBT faith groups to deliver equality. He served as Policy Director of GLEN – The Gay and Lesbian Equality Network in Ireland where he was responsible for designing and implementing the successful political strategy to pass civil unions legislation. He designed and launched KnowNow, Ireland's first free community based rapid HIV testing program. He served as Director of Organisation to the then Tánaiste (Deputy Prime Minister) of Ireland, Mary Coughlan as well as serving two terms as Mayor of his home town of Bundoran in Ireland.

Sternford Moyo

Sternford is the Senior Partner and Chairman of Scanlen & Holderness, a Zimbabwean law firm established in 1894. He specialises in infrastructure, Mining, Commercial and Corporate law.

He has advised financial institutions and loan underwriters in most of the large infrastructure projects that have taken place in post independent Zimbabwe in areas such as forestry, energy, water supply and telecommunications. Sternford has provided advice on navigating Zimbabwe’s empowerment laws and has been actively involved in most of the empowerment transactions which took place in Zimbabwe. He is a former President of both the Law Society of Zimbabwe and the Southern African Development Community Lawyers’ Association and Co- Chairperson of the Human Rights Institute of the International Bar Association.

He has been a significant corporate leader in Zimbabwe during his practice as a lawyer spanning a period of just under four decades. He has been a director and chairperson of companies including companies which are part of international groups. He is a former director of a leading leadership academy in Zimbabwe.

Kate Romain

Kate Romain, Partner at Bredin Prat, is a member of the Corporate team. She specialises in cross-border mergers and acquisitions and handles matters involving both privately and publicly held companies.

Her practice also includes advising clients of all nationalities in connection with their minority investments, strategic alliances and joint ventures. She deals with issues arising under US and French laws related to such transactions.

Kate is a lecturer at Institut d’Études Politiques de Paris and the University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne on cross-border M&A topics.

Born in the United States, she was admitted to the Paris Bar (2004) and the State Bar of Texas (1991) and is a graduate of the University of Texas School of Law (Juris Doctor, 1991).

Deborah Enix-Ross

Deborah Enix-Ross is a Senior Advisor to the International Dispute Resolution Group at Debevoise and Plimpton and a member of the firm’s Diversity Commission. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Enix-Ross served as a Senior Legal Officer and Head of the External Relations and Information Section of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Arbitration and Mediation Center in Geneva, Switzerland. Before joining WIPO, Ms. Enix-Ross was the Director of International Litigation for the Dispute Analysis and Corporate Recovery Services Group (DA&CR) of Price Waterhouse, and, before that, served, for seven years, as the American representative to the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) International Court of Arbitration. Ms. Enix-Ross is a Vice Chair of the IBA Bar Issues Commission (BIC) and the BIC representative on the IBA Strategic Plan Working Group She was instrumental in working with the International Bar Association to create the Women’s Interest Group (WIG), and participated in the inaugural meeting of WIG.

Stephen Revell

Stephen practised at Freshfields as a corporate transactional lawyer for over 41 years on 3 different continents and was a partner for 33 years. He held a number of leadership positions. As a lawyer, he specialised in debt and equity securities offerings and M&A. Virtually all of his work was cross-border – he has worked on transactions in over 50 countries. He is known for his global perspective and local knowledge. He is now a consultant to the firm and is actively involved in Freshfields’ StrongerTogether initiative, its network of relationship firms around the world that allows it to deliver Freshfields’ service to clients in any market.

He has recently established a consulting firm in Singapore/London/Vancouver – Making Change Happen – through which he provides management advice to law firms and other professional service providers.

He is co-author of a variety of books and a regular speaker on law firm management, business development, market regulation and anti-money laundering topics. His most recent publication is the 2nd Edition of Business Development (https://lnkd.in/g4QCzNJ). This has become the ‘bible’ for law firm business development.

Sara Carnegie

Sara is an employed barrister with over 20 years’ experience in the criminal justice and public policy sector. The majority of her career has been spent working for government, most recently as Director of Strategic Policy at the Crown Prosecution Service. Sara has also headed the legal teams on two public inquiries (the Baha Mousa Inquiry and the Detainee Inquiry) and spent several years as a legal and policy advisor to the Senior Presiding Judge and Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales. She has sat in a judicial capacity on the Council of the Inns of Court Disciplinary Tribunal since 2013 and has recently been appointed as a reviewer for the National Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel.
