Part 2: In many jurisdictions, pro bono provision is, understandably, focused on domestic need, especially given the inability of legal aid services to satisfy demand. However, there is a growing community of pro bono lawyers who concentrate their efforts internationally. This session, held during the IBA's 2015 annual conference in Vienna, reviews the different areas of opportunity for this work. Includes presentation of 2015 IBA Pro Bono award.

Flavia Regina de Souza Oliveira is the recipient of the IBA Pro Bono and Access to Justice Committee 2011 Annual Pro Bono Award.

Ms de Souza Oliveira was presented with the prestigious award during the IBA’s Annual Conference in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the first time the event has been held in the Middle East region, where it attracted an IBA record attendance of more than 5,000 delegates. On receiving the Award she said, ‘I am very happy and proud to receive the IBA Pro Bono Award.' ...

The IBA Pro Bono and Access to Justice Committee presented its first annual award to Angeline Welsh at the PPID Showcase on 6 October as part of the IBA Annual Conference in Vancouver. Ms Welsh, a senior associate in Allen & Overy’s international arbitration practice, created a voluntary programme where her colleagues answer queries on human rights infringement. The programme, now in its seventh year, has over 80 volunteers and has dealt with approximately 1,400 queries.

The winner of the 2012 International Bar Association (IBA) Pro Bono Award has been announced as Mr Tong Lihua, Director of the Beijing Children’s Legal Aid and Research Center and the Beijing Zhicheng Migrant Workers’ Legal Aid and Research Center, Beijing, China. The IBA Pro Bono and Access to Justice Committee, together with Award sponsor LexisNexis, presented Mr Tong with the Award on Thursday 04 October 2012 during the IBA’s Annual Conference in Dublin, Ireland.

Nick Paul announced as Pro Bono Award winner 2014 - E-news 28 November 2014. The Pro Bono Award, presented by the IBA Pro Bono Committee recognises lawyers who are leading the legal profession in building a pro bono culture. This year’s award honours Nicholas Paul’s commitment to pro bono legal work both domestically and internationally. Paul, of Doughty Street Chambers, received the award in recognition of his long career largely dedicated to helping others achieve their rights.
