Stephen Revell Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Singapore; Secretary-Treasurer, IBA Law Firm Management Committee
Stephen practiced at Freshfields as a corporate transactional lawyer for over 41 years on 3 different continents and was a partner for 33 years. Virtually all of his work was cross-border – he has worked on transactions in over 50 countries. He is now a consultant to the firm and is actively involved in Freshfields’ StrongerTogether initiative, its network of relationship firms around the world that allows it to deliver Freshfields’ service to clients in any market.
He has recently established a consulting firm in Singapore/London/Vancouver – Making Change Happen – through which he provides management advice to law firms and other professional service providers.
He is co-author of a variety of books and a regular speaker on law firm management, business development, market regulation and anti-money laundering topics. His most recent publication is the 2nd Edition of Business Development (https://lnkd.in/g4QCzNJ). This has become the ‘bible’ for law firm business development.
Elizabeth Cooper
Elizabeth Cooper is the Co-Chair of JLL’s Global Law Firm Group. She has represented nearly 50 different law firms with respect to their real estate, including Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, Faegre Drinker, Freshfields, Hunton Andrews Kurth, Skadden Arps, and Gibson Dunn.
Elizabeth has over 30 years of real estate experience as a top sales producer for over 20 years at JLL, and prior to that, as a real estate attorney for 10 years at Covington & Burling. As a broker, she has negotiated more than 50 million square feet of office space around the globe.
She is a frequent speaker and writer on real estate leasing for the University of Virginia Law School, Commercial Leasing Law and Strategy, the Association of Legal Administrators, and Sandpiper Partners. Elizabeth has dedicated her free time to mentoring the next generation of leaders in the industry; in particular, women. She also co-chairs JLL’s Mentor/Protégé program. This national program fosters cross industry and cross market collaboration to develop the next generation of leaders in the firm.
Steve Martin
As an Architect, Law Firm Strategist and Principal in Gensler’s Washington, DC office, Steve led Gensler’s Global Law Firm Practice, applying over 36 years of experience in leading the strategic planning and design for a diverse group of global, national and boutique law firms in 15 countries, including Latham & Watkins (globally), Clifford Chance, Reed Smith, Fried Frank, Vinson & Elkins, and Simpson, Thacher & Bartlett.
Steve is a Fellow of the College of Law Practice Management, and is frequently sought after to provide insights into best practices and emerging trends in law firm office planning and design. Steve has presented at the International Bar Association Conferences in Sydney, London, Vienna and Rome, as well as for national and regional conferences of the Association of Legal Administrators, the American Trial Lawyer Association, Law Seminars International, the US Law Firm Group, and the International Facility Management Association Legal Industry Council. Along with colleagues and partners, Steve led Gensler’s groundbreaking exhibit at the ALA Conference in Toronto: “Re-Design Law: the Legal Office of the Future,” which was recognized with the ALA IDEA Award for “the development of new practices that deliver great value and transformational impact to the legal community.”
Steve’s published articles and white papers include such topics as “The Changing Landscape of the Legal Profession and Workplace Performance,” “The Business of Law, the Culture of Law and the Evolving Legal Workplace,” and “Substance Over Status: Justifying Change.”
Robert Millard
Rob is director of Cambridge Strategy Group. His practice focuses on advising law firms on strategy and business model transformation to align with the ‘4th Industrial Revolution’. This includes helping firms better understand how these same trends are transforming client needs, and to better meet these new needs.
Over 20 years, Rob has worked with firms ranging from premium global leaders to leading national firms and others across Europe, the Americas, Middle-East, Asia and Africa, including a period in-house as a business strategist with Linklaters, in London.
Rob is a past co-chair of the International Bar Association (IBA)'s Law Firm Management Committee and a past co-chair of the American Bar Association (ABA)’s Law Practice Management Forum (now part of the Law Practice Division). He has co-authored ten books so far on law firm strategy and management. His PhD research is on performance assessment in large law firm mergers.
Segun Osuntokun
Segun Osuntokun has 22+ years' litigation and arbitration experience and expertise across a range of sectors with a particular focus on banking and financial services. Specialises in resolving complex disputes and claims which have elements of dishonesty, fraud or corruption.
He is Head of the firm’s Africa Group and many of his cases relate to or originate from jurisdictions in sub-Saharan Africa and head of the firm’s Energy Disputes practice with particular focus on oil and gas and power sectors.
Segun has taken six cases to a full trial or substantive hearing on the merits and has obtained a successful outcome in all of them. He has applied for or defended applications for emergency injunctions and disclosure orders in English High Court on more than ten occasions.
Segun Osuntokun was recognised by Chambers and Legal 500 as a ‘leading individual’ for banking litigation and civil fraud, as well as a ‘foreign expert’ on Nigerian disputes.
Maria-Pia Hope
Maria-Pia Hope specializes in banking and finance, insolvency and reconstruction. She is Managing Partner and CEO of Vinge as of April 2012. She is the Chair Emeritus of Lex Mundi’s Managing Partner’s Committee, and she was on Veckans Affärer’s/Dagens Industri's list of the 125 most Powerful Women in Swedish Business in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. Maria-Pia was also the 2019 recipient of the Swedish Bar Association’s annual award for distinguished contributions to the legal profession.
