A conference presented by the IBA Latin American Regional Forum and the IBA North American Regional Forum
The IBA’s Latin American and North American Regional Fora are pleased to announce the first joint conference on legal developments in the Americas in nearly a decade. ‘Deals, disputes and law firm growth areas in the Americas’, held in Miami, will provide leading international lawyers, active in the Americas, an opportunity to meet, share best practices and network after an extended hiatus.
The pandemic has changed the legal landscape in the Americas, accelerating several trends that pre-date the pandemic’s onset. Trends such as: increased client needs in respect of environment, social and corporate governance (ESG); greater demand for guidance around climate change (including litigation concerns); new challenges connected to cryptocurrency and fintech; and the spike in bankruptcy cases in both continents, will all be addressed.
Further, despite the pandemic and against all odds, M&A and private equity deals remain hot areas for practitioners in the Americas, but how have dealmakers adjusted to new challenges arising since Covid-19’s onset? The conference will also tackle these new challenges that law firms have been grappling with, including how to preserve a law firm’s culture in an increasingly virtual world; address worrisome mental health challenges; and meet goals with regards to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Please join us for a conference that will feature these, and other, topics, many of which will be presented in interactive, small group sessions, to maximise participation by all delegates and provide a platform for meaningful networking. The conference will also feature networking receptions and lunches that will ensure delegates leave Miami with new or renewed connections with peers throughout the Americas and beyond.
Topics include:
- Keynote speech
- Hot topics: ESG (environmental, social and governance)
- Hot topics - new sectors in the aftermath of the pandemic: current trends in cryptocurrency and fintech
- Private equity: developments in PE transactions in the Americas
- M&A in the Americas: which sectors hold the most promise?
- Bankruptcies in the Americas: trends and best practices in the wake of the pandemic
- Post pandemic office - what will or should a 'law office' look like?
