An online Event presented by the IBA ICC & ICL Programme
The International Bar Association ICC & ICL Programme will bring together Judge Silvia Fernández de Gurmendi, President of the ICC Assembly of States Parties, Judge Piotr Hofmański, President of the ICC, and Peter Lewis, the Registrar of the ICC, in a high-level panel to discuss the critical role of States Parties in strengthening the Rome Statute system, the challenges facing the Rome Statute system and how states and other stakeholders can support the ICC.
The event will include the launch of the ICC & ICL Programme publication ‘Strengthening the International Criminal Court and the Rome Statute System: A Guide for States Parties’. This Guide addresses the oversight role of the Assembly of States Parties, the need to establish effective national frameworks to fulfil Rome Statute obligations including complementarity and cooperation, and the importance of promoting universality and full implementation of the Rome Statute. The Guide provides detailed guidance and recommendations for all existing and future States Parties to fulfil their Rome Statute responsibilities and obligations in order to build a stronger and more effective ICC in the next decades.
