SUMMARY:Environmental and health challenges in developing countries: lega
 l frameworks and responses
DESCRIPTION:As the economies of developing countries grow and populations
increasingly shift from rural to urban environments\, significant envir
onmental and health issues arise for the populations of these nations as
well. From increased air pollution and access to clean water\, to the h
armful effects of climate change and resource development\, there are ch
allenging issues and doubts regarding whether the legal frameworks in th
ese nations can develop as well as protect the population from these gro
wing environmental and health challenges at times when countries priorit
ise economic growth over environmental considerations. This panel will d
iscuss the leading environmental and health challenges in developing nat
ions\, where there are fundamental weaknesses in legal frameworks or enf
orcement mechanisms\, and the lessons learned from around the world to i
mplement legal protections for the health\, safety and wellbeing of indi
 viduals to a clean environment.
