SUMMARY:Australasia's mega projects: the curate's egg
DESCRIPTION:Australia and New Zealand have been undertaking a significant
volume of major projects: renewing ageing infrastructure\, catching up
on a backlog of constrained delivery of infrastructure for many decades
and responding to the effects of natural disasters. Such projects consum
e significant resources and have long delivery times. They are often lau
nched with fanfare and excitement. But are the objectives of building th
is infrastructure achieved? Does the community get real value for money?
Are we improving in our delivery of such projects or do we learn the sa
me lessons over and over again? The panellists will speak about their ow
n experiences of many of these projects and share their insights as to h
ow we can improve the delivery of major infrastructure.
