SUMMARY:Trading in art assets: restrictions of the state and the resoluti
on of disputes relating to art works
DESCRIPTION:Art assets comprise a range of items that are sold\, donated\
, bequeathed\, recovered or lost. The state\, or state agencies\, often
touch and have a role in such matters and circumstances. This session wi
ll focus on:\n\n• local restrictions on the sale of aboriginal/native ar
t for sale outside the home jurisdiction and the international impact on
reception/delivery in third-party states\; attention will be given in p
articular to the restrictions and protections in place for Australia and
the region\; and\n\n• arbitration and international trading in art\; an
interesting question around 'applicable laws' has arisen in recent time
s: should the law of the art work’s originating country be the applicabl
e law? Current arbitration considerations will be discussed.\n\nThe int
ention is to provide a current and interesting look at these elements in
  an interactive manner.
