SUMMARY:Crowdfunding
DESCRIPTION:In recent years\, crowdfunding has consistently gained moment
um and popularity worldwide as a relatively efficient method of raising
limited amounts of seed capital for new and growing enterprises. The reg
ulatory response to this phenomenon has been less consistent. This sessi
on will address the following questions:\n\n- Is there a growing consens
us among securities regulators in different jurisdictions around best pr
actices in harnessing the potential for crowdfunding to stimulate innova
tion and economic growth without drowning small-scale entrepreneurs in t
oo much red tape?\n- What lessons can be drawn from the first year of th
e United States’ Regulation Crowdfunding?\n-In countries that have poste
d early successes in fostering a robust local crowdfunding market\, has
domestic regulation been a help or a hindrance?\n-With significant exper
imentation in the structure and format of crowdfunding platforms still u
nderway\, is broad regulation still premature – and is Europe’s cautious
and incremental approach the right one?\n-Does early evidence indicate
that the potential advantages of cross-border crowdfunding platform impl
ementation should drive rapid international harmonization and standardiz
ation?\n-How can the use of crowdfunding regulations (both licensing and
transactional) be optimised for growing companies?\n-What aspects of cr
owdfunding regulations are useful for larger companies?\n-Given the disc
losure and other requirements\, has crowdfunding really reduced the cost
of capital for growth companies?\n-What abuses have been identified ear
ly on? Do investors want to invest in crowdfunding?\n-Can stock exchange
s\, if mere service providers\, play a role in crowdfunding services and
can they secure the confidence of investors and small and medium-sized
enterprises (SME) issuers?\n-How does the aftermarket work?
