SUMMARY:Session two: Asset Recover: Role and standing of victims of corru
 ption in criminal proceedings\, notably in the context of structured cri
 minal settlement
DESCRIPTION:The standing of corruption victims in criminal proceedings ma
 inly exists in civil law jurisdictions and is usually only available to 
 direct victims of corruption\, such as states or state-owned companies. 
 In certain common law jurisdictions however\, private prosecution also m
 akes some criminal proceedings tools available to victims of corruption.
  In certain jurisdictions\, standing is also granted to representatives 
 of civil society.\n\nThe Asset Recovery Subcommittee is currently conduc
 ting a global survey on the role and standing of victims of corruption i
 n criminal proceedings\, to be published on the Anti-Corruption webpage 
 in the form of country Q&amp\;As in summer 2017. The survey’s preliminar
 y results will be presented at the conference. This session will focus o
 n the availability of obtaining compensation for corruption victims in t
 he context of structured criminal settlements or the attribution of fine
 s\, disgorged profits\, or forfeited proceeds.
