SUMMARY:Mediating sports disputes
DESCRIPTION:Mediation has become a real alternative to court proceedings
in many fields\, from family law cases to large commercial disputes. Sur
prisingly\, mediation is not a common form of alternative dispute resolu
tion (ADR) in sports disputes. In general\, such disputes are governed b
y various sports federations far away from public courts with arbitratio
n as a main tool.\n\nThe main questions that will be addressed in this s
ession are:\n\n- Why is mediation still not common in the field of sport
s disputes\, which is so independent from public courts and self governi
ng?\n- How mediation in sports disputes can be developed? and\n- Is spor
ts mediation needed and would it be used?\n\nThe session will also focus
on another issues: whether all sports disputes are capable of being med
iated and\, if so\, who should conduct such mediations? Is there specifi
c training and experience required for mediators of sports disputes?\n\n
The session brings together sports mediators\, arbitrators and lawyers w
 orking in the sports industry.
