SUMMARY:Geopolitics in court – part I Sanctions and embargoes
DESCRIPTION:Sanctions and embargoes\nSanctions and embargoes are coercive
measures which serve different socio-economical and public purposes. To
day\, sanctions have been and continue to be used to coerce states to co
nform to international commitments.\nThis session will focus primarily o
n the political and economic impact of sanctions and embargos in commerc
ial life. Sanctions impact contracts between private parties which often
leads to disputes over the performance of contractual obligations. Is i
t simply a matter of contract drafting and definition of force\nmajeure?
The session will discuss practices to best possibly minimize any contra
ctual risks and challenges in and after court proceedings\, if sanctions
  apply.
