SUMMARY:Turning law in theory into law in action
DESCRIPTION:This session will look at the relationship between academic l
 aw and law in practice\, and the marked differences between the common l
 aw world and civil law jurisdictions. These differences may be seen in t
 he perceived value of academic qualifications\, in the perceived benefit
  of practising lawyers pursuing parallel academic careers\, and in the c
 ourts' approach to academic publications. We will explore what academic 
 law brings to the practice of law\, and how the practice of law is impro
 ved\, the service to clients optimised\, and the development of the law 
 itself enhanced\, by striking the right balance.
