SUMMARY:Morning Keynote Address: Achieving the impossible - the epic and
 human story of Nando Parrado
DESCRIPTION:On 13 October 1972\, the plane of the Uruguayan air forces tr
ansporting a rugby team including Nando Parrado to Santiago de Chile cra
shed in the Andes Mountains Range. The last thing Parrado remembers befo
re the crash was seeing the mountain right below the aeroplane followed
by terrible noise and darkness. A bump on his head kept him unconscious
for several days. When Parrado woke up\, he discovered the real horror:
the plane had broken into two pieces\, his mother had died in the accide
nt and his sister also passed away a few days later. The challenge of su
 rviving at more than 4\,000 meters high\, without vegetation\, water\, o
r food and at temperatures below -20ºC started.\n\nNando will offer us h
is unique experience of being sentenced to death and yet\, achieving the
impossible\, fighting for survival\, finding motivation\, pushing resil
ience to the limit\, facing unprecedented moral challenges\, empathising
with other survivors\, trusting friendships\, supporting the group lead
ers and becoming himself a leader\, finding the strength to train his le
gs to walk away from the dead end by crossing the mountains during 10 da
ys to finally find rescue. Out of the 45 passengers\, only 16 finally re
 turned home.\n
