SUMMARY:Supply chain and criminal offences
DESCRIPTION:Widespread concern about environmental\, social and governanc
e (ESG) related issues\, coupled with growing political pressure\, has s
een lawmakers and regulators increasingly turning to the use of criminal
law. Examples include the legislation introduced to criminalise modern
slavery or environmental damage in certain jurisdictions and the use of
existing offences to prosecute corporate ‘greenwashing’ in others. Recen
t case law has highlighted how the long arm of money laundering legislat
ion can potentially catch corporates for breaches of ESG offences many s
teps removed from them the supply chain.\n\nThe panel will consider how
this trend of criminal law remedies to tackle ESG concerns is developing
across and between various jurisdictions in an increasingly important a
 rea for practitioners.\n
