SUMMARY:Plenary session: This House believes that social media is the onl
y safe and reliable outlet for information in an increasingly regulated
 world
DESCRIPTION:Social media has taken over the dissemination of news particu
larly for the younger generations\, Y and Z\, who rely upon digital cont
ent. Information on social media can typically be traced and attributed\
, although anonymous trolls and false accounts are a problem. A lesser-k
nown feature of social media is that updated content also becomes readil
y actionable when false\, defamatory\, or plain rude.\nTwo opposing team
s will debate the different aspects of regulation and freedom to help us
find out how the balance is to be achieved. Should the state impose spe
cial regulations to protect privacy and individual rights through detail
ed laws and regulations? Or should they allow a liberal\, open system th
at encourages free speech and only subjects users to pre-existing laws o
n defamation and libel\, as well as statutory protections in regards to
 caste\, religious and racial slurs\, incitement etc?\n
