SUMMARY:Data without borders? One year of the EU Data Act: legal and gove
rnance frontiers in the global data economy
DESCRIPTION:Access to data has become a central legal and economic challe
nge in the data-driven economy. One year after the EU Data Act entered i
nto force\, the promise of greater data availability and fair access is
being put to the test. The Act\, together with the Data Governance Act a
nd other emerging international frameworks\, aims to break down barriers
  to data use\, reduce data-driven lock-in effects\, and enable a more ba
lanced distribution of data value across stakeholders.\n\nThis session w
ill examine how the right of access to IoT data\, the sharing obligation
s for private and public entities\, and the introduction of Model Contra
ctual Terms and Standard Contractual Clauses are reshaping the legal arc
hitecture of the digital economy. Are these new mechanisms truly empower
ing users\, SMEs\, and public bodies to access and reuse data? How are b
usinesses adapting their data governance models and contractual strategi
es to comply while remaining competitive globally?\n\nDrawing on the fir
st year of practical experience\, legal experts and policymakers will di
scuss whether the EU’s approach to data access is setting a global stand
ard — and will also conduct a deep dive on the Model Contractual Terms a
 nd the Standard Contractual Clauses.\n
