SUMMARY:Constitutional Review and Strategic Direction Open Meeting
DESCRIPTION:View reports\nThe IBA Constitution and Governance Committee i
 nvites all interested parties to attend the Constitutional Review and St
 rategic Direction session to discuss the work of the Constitution and Go
 vernance Committee on the following topics:\n\n- the role of the Nominat
 ions Committee and process\;\n- who may speak for the IBA\, for IBAHRI\,
  and the role of the BIC Policy Committee\; and\n- voting strengths over
 all.\n\nBackground:\n\nAs a reminder\, the CGC has been operational sinc
 e early 2021\, with a mandate to advise on the interpretation of\, and a
 mendments to\, the IBA Constitution. In addition\, as part of the 2020 I
 BA Strategic Plan\, the CGC was tasked with assessing whether the Consti
 tution of the International Bar Association meets the current needs of t
 he Association and is fit for the future.\n\nThe CGC concluded its initi
 al review in 2024 and submitted proposed amendments to the IBA Constitut
 ion\, which were approved at the IBA Council Meeting held in May 2025 in
  Milan. Since the IBA Council Meeting in Milan\, and consistent with sta
 tements made during the meeting\, the IBA leadership has directed the CG
 C to continue addressing the issues raised during consultations that the
  CGC had identified as “special projects”. Broadly stated\, the CGC was 
 asked to consider the following issues: the role of the Nominations Comm
 ittee and process\; who may speak for the IBA\, for IBAHRI\, and the rol
 e of the BIC Policy Committee\; and voting strengths overall.\n\nThe ope
 n meeting is an invitation to review the work of the CGC to date on thes
 e topics and to address any questions. The material has been sent by ind
 ividual mail to all Council members.\n\nPlease review the reports from t
 he IBA Constitution and Governance Committee Working Groups above\, whic
 h will also be discussed at the IBA Council Meeting on 23 May 2026 in Pr
 ague.\n
