SUMMARY:The continent of regional competition authorities: taking stock o

DESCRIPTION:Cross-border practitioners in Africa face a patchwork of over
 lapping regional merger regimes — the East African Community (EAC)\, The
  Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA)\, the Economic C
 ommunity of West African States (ECOWAS) and the Economic and Monetary C
 ommunity of Central Africa (CEMAC) — each with distinct filing fees\, as
 sessment standards and jurisdictional thresholds. This session takes sto
 ck of how these regimes have matured since their launches and how they i
 nteract with one another and with national authorities. Subjects include
  the treatment of territorial overlaps\, COMESA’s continued reliance on 
 its existing merger guidelines under the new regulations\, ECOWAS’ resis
 tance to public interest considerations\, filing fee structures\, and th
 e practical implications for multi-jurisdictional deal clearance. This i
 s a regulator-heavy panel (EAC\, COMESA\, ECOWAS and CEMAC representativ
 es) moderated by a practitioner.\n
