Biography

The Honourable Marco E.L. Mendicino is a former federal prosecutor, member of Parliament, cabinet minister and chief of staff to Prime Minister Mark Carney. As chief of staff, he led the Prime Minister’s Office through the federal election and managed one of the most consequential transitions of government in decades. He was responsible for coordinating the launch of the prime minister’s agenda, oversaw the passage of major projects legislation, and was a trusted senior advisor to the prime minister during historic engagements at the White House, NATO and Canada’s G7 presidency in Kananaskis. Marco won three successive terms as the MP for Eglinton-Lawrence. While serving in cabinet, he held the immigration and public safety portfolios. Among his achievements, Marco represented Canada at the Five Eyes and G7, deepening Canada’s collaboration with allies in combating terrorism, money laundering, cyber attacks, foreign interference, and human trafficking. Before being elected, Marco spent a decade as a federal prosecutor, working on high-profile cases involving anti-terrorism and national security. He was president of the Association of Justice Counsel, managed investigations at the Law Society of Ontario, and was an adjunct professor at Osgoode Hall Law School. In his free time, he enjoys playing classical piano and sports.
