Angela Kane, former UN High Representative for Disarmament Affairs
Angela Kane is one of the United Nations’ most respected and experienced officials, having recently retired from the organisation after 38 years of service. She has since accepted a position as a Senior Fellow at the Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation and is the co-convener of the Group of Eminent Persons of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty Organization. She speaks to the IBA about her time at the UN, the Security Council, the challenges she faced in her most recent position as the UN’s High Representative for Disarmament Affairs and her crucial role as lead negotiator in persuading Syria to give up its chemical weapons.
