Episode one: The art of building global connections

Claudio Visco, President-elect of the IBA and Senior Partner of Lipani, Italy, shares his experience and views on the art and values of global professional networking for a law firm. He also emphasises the importance of investing in international professional relationship-building by involving the new generation as a law firm in general and via the best practices of the IBA as a professional association. Claudio’s thoughts are shared as part of the video podcast series of the Small and Medium Law Firm Subcommittee of the Law Firm Management Committee. Episode two: Empowering future leaders in law

Paul Marmor, Partner of Sherrards Solicitors, UK, and Senior Chair of the Law Firm Management Committee (LFMC), explains the essential principles and best practices of professional networking skills, which is a ‘must know’ for a young senior associate or partner stepping into an international organisation like the IBA with a view to building up a career as a rainmaker. Paul discusses how to efficiently and sustainably run a law firm or any department (practice area, local office etc) of it. Paul also shares his personal view on the magic of how to combine the work-life balance with 24/7 availability. According to Paul, the IBA’s LFMC is a great venue to pick up these skill sets from colleagues, the webinars, conference sessions and other programmes, including via its Training Academy for The Leaders of Tomorrow.

Episode three: Advising across borders in a time of geopolitical tension

Marcin Olechowski, Managing Partner of SK&S, Poland, shares his view on a very sensitive topic: managing client expectations and relations in times of geopolitical tension. In the third episode of the video podcast series of the Small and Medium Law Firm Subcommittee of the LFMC, Marcin talks to Judit Budai, Szecskay Attorneys at Law, about the importance of the independence of local law firms. He reflects on the balance between political neutrality and performance demands and cautions against lawyers becoming ‘fixers’.
