In Japan, the law amending the Civil Code was enacted in May 2017, and promulgated on 2 June 2017. This amendment was made from the perspective that the Civil Code, which is a basic law for the people of Japan, should be easily understandable and applicable. This law will come into force by 2 June 2020, which is within three years from the date of promulgation, in order to make the reform of the Civil Code widely known to the public, but the exact date of implementation has not yet been determined. Although this revision covers a wide range of the Civil Code, in this article we will focus only on the amendments affecting the rights of creditors.
