Book Launch: The Right to a Fair Trial in International Law by Amal Clooney and Philippa Webb

A webinar presented by the IBA Human Rights Institute

16 DEC 2020 1700 – 1800 GMT

The International Bar Association's Human Rights Institute (IBAHRI) and Oxford University Press invite you to attend the virtual book launch of ‘The Right to a Fair Trial in International Law’, authored by Barrister and Professor Amal Clooney and Barrister and Professor Philippa Webb. The book provides a comprehensive overview of international jurisprudence on one of the most litigated rights in the world: the right to a fair trial. It distils international standards — drawing on international and regional treaties, the case law of international courts and tribunals, and decisions of international human rights bodies — and considers their applicability to practical scenarios that arise in criminal trials. According to Sir Howard Morrison QC,a British Judge at the International Criminal Court who wrote the Foreword, the book is 'a reference for every prosecutor or judge who wants to be fair; and for every defence counsel who wants to give their client the best chance of a just outcome in court'.

The webinar will be chaired by Director of the International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute, Baroness Helena Kennedy QC, with introductory remarks from Sir Howard Morrison QC. Participants will hear from the book’s co-authors, Amal Clooney and Philippa Webb, alongside a range of legal experts. The webinar will also include an opportunity for participants to ask the speakers questions relating to the book.
