From the Co-Chairs - Arbitration Committee April 2020
Back to Arbitration Committee publications
Dear Committee members,
We are delighted to preface this new edition of the IBA Arbitration Committee e-newsletter, which — thanks to the tireless efforts of our Editor Jose Daniel Amado — is once again packed with enticing contributions on a diverse array of topics.
As Co-Chairs of the Committee, we look forward to a productive 2020. Some of our ongoing projects — like the revision of the Rules on the Taking of Evidence, due to be presented in Miami at the IBA Annual Conference — are gathering critical momentum while new ones — like the insolvency & arbitration toolkit — have now been launched. The work of the Committee’s newly established Working Group on Corporate Social Responsibility and In-House Counsel Group will also get underway in earnest this year. Thanks to our exceptional cadre of officers, there are many more ongoing projects than can be mentioned here and we encourage you to attend the Committee’s traditional breakfast meeting in Miami to learn about all of them.
There is, however, one variable at present that makes many aspirations more challenging to achieve. As we write this foreword, the world is struggling to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic and it is unclear to what extent it will also present challenges for the Committee’s work, as it does for so many individuals and organisations worldwide. We already postponed the Arbitration Day in Istanbul to September and our hope is — for reasons self-evidently well beyond the Committee’s work — that the situation by then will be contained. May you all keep safe and well.
Best wishes,
Gaetan Verhoosel and Philippe Pinsolle
