From the Co-Chairs – Construction Law International – September 2026
As we look forward to the IBA Annual Conference in Copenhagen from 4 to 9 October 2026, the IBA International Construction Projects (ICP) Committee is preparing an active programme that should offer good variety and value to delegates.
This year, the Committee will contribute six panels to the annual programme. Together, these sessions will examine some of the most important legal and practical issues facing the international construction and infrastructure sector. They will bring together leading practitioners, in-house counsel, industry representatives and other specialists from different jurisdictions to exchange perspectives on challenges arising throughout the life cycle of major projects.
The breadth of our programme reflects the distinctive character of the ICP Committee. International construction projects sit at the intersection of law, engineering, finance, project management, technology and public policy. The issues that arise rarely fall neatly within a single discipline or jurisdiction. Our panels are therefore intended not simply to describe developments, but to encourage practical discussion and genuine engagement between speakers and delegates.
The Committee’s own open business meeting will take place on Thursday 8 October, at 1545-1700 at the Bella Center. We very much hope that ICP members and all those interested in international construction and infrastructure will join us. The session will offer both substantive discussions including the mid-year working weekend, the biannual conference in London and other committee initiatives. It is also an opportunity to meet new colleagues working from around the world.
Of course, the Annual Conference is also about renewing friendships, welcoming new members and strengthening the professional relationships that make the ICP community so special.
Our Committee dinner will be held on Wednesday 7 October at Le Petit Rouge, 1900-2200. The dinner is always a highlight of our conference week: a relaxed evening in which members, speakers and friends of the Committee can reconnect away from the formal conference programme. We warmly encourage members to reserve their places early.
We will conclude the week on Friday 9 October, with a river and harbor cruise through Copenhagen. The excursion will combine views of the city from the water with a traditional Danish smørrebrød lunch. It should be a wonderful way to experience Copenhagen, continue the week’s conversations and spend time together before delegates begin their journeys home.
Further information about the six panels and our social events is available through the IBA conference programme and social events calendar.
We are enormously grateful to all our session chairs, moderators, speakers and organising colleagues for the time, thought and enthusiasm they have contributed. Developing six panels alongside our dinner and excursion represents a considerable collective effort, and the quality of the programme reflects the commitment of the Committee’s members.
We look forward to welcoming you to Copenhagen for a week of thoughtful discussion, new ideas, collegiality and, we hope, a little Danish hygge.
