A webinar presented by the IBA Professional Ethics Committee

Family lawyers are presented with ethical dilemmas all the time. Knowing how to recognise an ethical issue is one part of the battle; knowing how to deal with them effectively is another.

Family law presents a number of unique challenges for lawyers, yet at the same time family lawyers are governed by the same ethical obligations and duties as all lawyers. The best interests of the child, for example, add an important element to ethical conduct in family law. Privilege, confidentiality and conflicts of interest require consideration over and above that which must be applied in other areas of the law.

This panel will address several current ethical issues, focusing on lawyers’ responsibilities in relation to dealing with demanding clients and/or making serious allegations and complaints.
