A conference presented by the IBA Bar Issues Commission and the IBA BIC International Trade in Legal Services Committee, supported by the Instituto dos Advogados de São Paulo (IASP)
This conference aims to address the evolving role of legal practitioners in a rapidly globalising yet increasingly fragmented international environment, with a particular focus on Brazil as a strategic jurisdiction in Latin America.
The programme adopts an integrated view of international trade, recognising the interdependence between trade in goods and services, including legal services, and the essential role of cross-border legal cooperation in ensuring predictability and legal certainty for businesses operating in multiple jurisdictions.
The conference is designed to:
- explore opportunities for the internationalisation of legal services;
- strengthen engagement between Brazilian practitioners and global law firms;
- address regulatory, tax and structural barriers to cross-border legal work;
- promote dialogue on South-South cooperation and emerging economic dynamics; and
- analyse the interaction between international trade frameworks and domestic legal regimes in a context of growing global uncertainty.
The event is jointly organised under the auspices of the BIC International Trade in Legal Services (ITILS) Committee of the International Bar Association (IBA) and the Instituto dos Advogados de São Paulo (IASP). It is the 12th edition in a series of global legal practice conferences organised by the ITILS Committee, with previous events held in Zimbabwe, the East African Community (EAC) region, the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Cambodia for countries members of LawAsia, Costa Rica, the South Pacific, Indonesia, South Africa, Chinese Taipei and Nigeria.
