Biography

Belinda van Heerden served as a Judge of the Cape High Court from 2000 to 2004. She was thereafter appointed to the Supreme Court of Appeal of South Africa where she served until her retirement in 2013. She also served as an acting Judge of the Constitutional Court of South Africa in 2006. During her 14 years on the Bench, she heard and decided many and varied family and child law cases, including international matters and forum disputes. She also represented South Africa on the International Hague Network of Judges from 2008 to 2014. Since her retirement, Belinda continues to lecture in advanced family law. She still publishes regularly in the field of South African and international family law and presents at national and international conferences on family law matters. She is a member of the International Society of Family Law, the International Association of Youth and Family Judges and Magistrates and the International Association of Women Judges.
