Biography
Sue has been at the forefront of the restructuring and insolvency profession for the last 20 years. She has led and been involved in many of the matters that have shaped the legal landscape and market, and continues to feature on market leading mandates. According to quotes provided to legal directories, Sue “stands out for her technical [experience] and ability to grasp the commerciality of the situation,” is “intelligent, articulate and shrewd”, and her “advice is consistently concise and thoughtful, and conveys authority.” Sue has vast experience in advising on all aspects of financial distress, cross-border and domestic restructurings, corporate insolvencies and insolvency litigation. She has led teams dealing with many high-profile restructurings and insolvencies. In so doing, she has been responsible for devising, negotiating and implementing restructuring solutions in a wide range of matters across different jurisdictions, often involving large numbers of stakeholders. Her practice also crosses many sectors, having dealt with notable restructurings and insolvencies in the automotive, financial services, energy, retail, leisure, real estate, manufacturing, shipping, rail and aviation industries. She also deals with significant litigation arising in connection with restructuring and insolvency situations. A recent illustration of her prominence is the 2020 invitation from leading High Court Judges to work with them in authoring the Practice Statement for schemes of arrangement and restructuring plans, to coincide with the enactment of the Corporate Insolvency and Governance Act 2020. Sue is also a former member of the Insolvency Rules Committee, a body which advises the Lord Chancellor on secondary insolvency legislation. Sue has chaired and spoken at a variety of international conferences on cross-border restructuring and insolvency issues. She has many accolades including being listed in The Lawyer’s Hot 100, listed in the International Who’s Who of Insolvency and Restructuring Lawyers from 2014 to present, and was featured in Global Restructuring Review’s Women in Restructuring in 2017 and 2019. She also supports junior members of the profession, such as acting a Mentoring Co-Chair for the International Women’s Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation in London.
