Heiko Ahlbrecht

Biography

Heiko Ahlbrecht advises and defends individuals and companies primarily in corruption and criminal tax proceedings, including international cases. He coordinates internal investigations, accompanies civil law disputes under criminal law aspects and assesses possible criminal law risks in connection with company acquisitions (criminal due diligence). Heiko Ahlbrecht is one of the few German experts in the field of extradition law and mutual legal assistance.

Since 2015 Heiko Ahlbrecht is an honorary professor at the Leibniz University of Hanover for criminal tax law and defence in white-collar crime cases, where he is teaching since 2008.

Since 2016, he is a member of the Executive Committee of the Criminal Law Committee of the German Federal Bar Association (Deutscher Anwaltverein) and co-editor of this committee’s journal Defense Counsel’s Forum (Strafverteidiger Forum). In 2018 he was elected as a member of the advisory board of the ECBA (European Criminal Bar Association).

Heiko Ahlbrecht has been a partner at Wessing & Partner since 2007. Prior to that, he was an attorney in the law firm Wessing II - Verjans from 2001 to 2006 and in the law firm Haarmann Hemmelrath from 2000 to 2001.

Heiko Ahlbrecht completed his law studies at the University of Münster. He advises his clients in German and English.
