Carl Newman

Biography

He leads the white collar defence and investigations team in London. Carl has over 20 years’ experience of investigations, regulatory and criminal matters, acting for both individuals and corporates and confidently deals with a myriad of issues for senior executives, managers and other professionals in the UK. He is frequently involved in cross border issues, and works closely with colleagues in the US and across Asia to resolve complex matters. Carl has managed proceedings and investigations involving bodies such as the Financial Conduct Authority, Prudential Regulation Authority, Serious Fraud Office and UK tax authority and the National Crime Agency. His practice also extends to internal investigations, public enquiries, defence side representation, extradition cases and some sanctions work.

Carl’s recent instructions include an internal investigation for a PLC with accounting and VAT irregularities that has led to a self-report to the SFO and had national news coverage and Internal investigation for a world famous British arts institution.

He also conducted Mutual legal assistance treaty (MLAT) request proceedings involving an Ultra- High net worth client, legal privilege and conducted in both the high and criminal court jurisdictions.

He continues to act for a core participant in the Grenfell Inquiry involved in ongoing hearings.
