Johann König

Biography

Johann König is an entrepreneur and art mediator. In his gallery for contemporary art in Berlin, founded in 2002, he now represents more than 40 international artists. In 2015, KÖNIG GALERIE moved into the former St. Agnes Church, which has since established itself as one of Germany's most important art venues. Further locations in London, Seoul, a showroom in Monaco, a space in Vienna, and international cooperations serve as important platforms to bring art and artists closer to an international audience on a local level. As an art educator, he regularly tours current exhibitions and speaks with artists and curators as part of his "10AmSeries" on Instagram Live. König hosts two podcasts, "Was mit Kunst," whose second season is available since May 2021, and "Kunst Crime." In his podcasts, he meets important protagonists of the art world who give exciting insights into their work and careers. In April 2020, KÖNIG DIGITAL, the virtual gallery space, was launched with the aim to create experiences online. In March 2021, the gallery held its first NFT auction as part of the group show THE ARTIST IS ONLINE which was on view at KÖNIG in Decentraland, a virtual world based on the blockchain. In June 2020, MISA – short for MESSE IN ST. AGNES - was held for the first time, offering more than 200 artworks, from the primary and secondary market. On the occasion of the the third edition of the MISA, in August 2021, the online market place MISA.art was launched together with its first NFT Marketplace.
