Cecil Ameil

Biography

Cécil Ameil is Director for Regulatory Affairs, responsible for market access and policy advocacy in Europe, Africa and Middle East for the satellite communications operator SES.

SES is uniquely operating two constellations of satellites to deliver a large portfolio of communications services around the world. Cécil’s role is to manage the impact of telecoms legislations and spectrum policies for these two constellations in the EMEA region, in a context of outstanding business developments for the satellite sector in 5G, Cloud and the connectivity of mobile (aeronautical and maritime) platforms.

He’s also in charge of the licensing for SES video and data operations in the EMEA region. Cécil has been the chairperson of the regulatory working group in ESOA (EMEA Satellite Operators Association) for many years. In this capacity, he represents the sector for the defense of satellite communications in Europe, Africa and Middle East towards national regulators and regional bodies including the EU, the CEPT, the African Telecom Union (ATU) and the ITU. As a member of the Global VSAT Forum (GVF) and an active participant to the Global Satellite Coalition (GSC), Cécil is also contributing to the coordination of the satellite sector’s efforts to defend access to and usage of essential radio spectrum at regional and ITU levels for the preparation of World Radiocommunications Conferences.

Cécil looks back at 25 years of experience in dealing with regulatory affairs, specialised in ICT regulations for media and telecommunications. Originally a consultant on public affairs based in Brussels, Cécil joined SES in 1998, reporting to the General Counsel.

A French national living in Belgium, Cécil is married and the father of 3 boys. He performs theatre and music as amateur.
