Sun Kim

Biography

Sun Kim is a Human Rights Officer/Legal Advisor for the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights working in the Asia Pacific Section. Previously, Sun was a Legal Officer at the UN Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar which is mandated to collect, consolidate, preserve and analyse evidence of serious international crimes and other violations of international law committed in Myanmar since 2011. From 2016-2019, Sun was a Staff Attorney at the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in San Francisco. Sun taught International Human Rights Law at the University of San Francisco School of Law. Sun’s international law experience includes the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, where she worked on the case of The Prosecutor v. Radovan Karadžić; as an attorney for the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights in Berlin; and as an intern at the Pre-Trial Chamber of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Court of Cambodia in Phnom Penh. Sun holds an LL.M. from Leiden University, a J.D. from the University of San Francisco, a master's degree from Harvard University and a bachelor's degree from UC Berkeley. Sun is admitted to practice in California.
